Can a subluxation cause symptoms other than musculo-skeletal pain?

Yes! we see patients who experience benefits from migraines, numbness, stomach issues, even multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s. In 1895, the first chiropractic patient was a deaf man who had his hearing restored from a Chiropractic adjustment. The adjustor, DD Palmer, thought he had found the cure for deafness. However, as he began to adjust more and more deaf people, he quickly realized that he did not have the cure for deafness, but that his adjustments were having a tremendous effect on the nervous system. Every organ, muscle, and tissue in your body has nerve supply, and nerves originate from your spine! A healthy spine = a healthy nervous system.

Chiropractic is not Manual Medicine or Mobilisation:

Professional Chiropractic adjustments should not be confused with other forms of joint manipulative therapy. Adjustments are given specifically and at speed to minimise the force required. Our understanding is that this type of correction provides the most helpful input into your body to create change. Each adjustment builds on the one before, gradually improving the joint movement, and training the nervous system to hold the joint in this new found state of ease.

Some people say: “Once you start with Chiropractic, you will have to go forever”

Our care should only be utilized for as long as it is serving you to become a better, healthier, and more vibrant you. Typically, patients do choose to stay with us for general well-being care in their third phase of Chiropractic care because they like the way they feel and function following a Chiropractic adjustment. We understand that maintaining an interference free nervous system with optimal communication and connection is essential for health throughout a lifetime.

We do not manage our practice members as one of our goals is to empower all to understand that the body can function better in a state of less interference, we would consider this being a necessity. If you consider that 100 years ago people hardly brushed their teeth daily and did not consider that their lifestyle decisions such as diet affected the hygiene of their teeth.

Do you take insurance?

In the the Netherlands Chiropractic care fall under alternative health care. Depending on your personal health care insurance policy you may be reimbursed for care with us. Payment takes place at the practice and we will email you an invoice that you can forward directly to your health insurance. It is useful to contact your health insurer prior to starting care in order to see how much you get reimbursed. With this said we emplore our practice members to not let insurance dictate their health. We will communicate openly with you at the Report of Findings what your Chiropractic care plan recommendations will be. We are registered with most of the providers.

What is a subluxation?

A subluxation is when one or more bones of the spine have increased tension or compression and cause interference to the communication of the nervous system and other structures. When the nerves are in an irritated state they can cause symptoms such as: pain, heat, swelling, tenderness, tingling, burning, and numbness. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you may be suffering from a very correctable subluxation. The subluxation is not used in the medical sense. An orthopedic subluxation is a stage before dislocation, and as such is not suitable for a chiropractic treatment, nor should it be confused with such.

What is an Adjustment?

The Chiropractic treatment is known as an Adjustment. An adjustment is the application of a specific force in a specific direction, delivered at specific speed with the intent to reduce subluxation. The adjustment creates a neurological response, or 'Re-boot' improving the communication potential between your brain and your body. The subluxation creates interference in your nervous system, so the removal thereof by an adjustment improves your body's regulatory capacity, something essential for your good health.

The adjustment occurs within the normal movement of the joint, and not in a way that might damage the ligaments, joint capsule or nerves.

What is the cracking/popping sound during an adjustment?

Not all adjustments create a “crack.” However, the audible sound commonly produced during traditional chiropractic adjustments is the release of gas (nitrogen) from synovial joints. The focus is not on the release of the gas, but the built up of aberrant biomechanics and neurological patterns associated with vertebral subluxations. Also released are various chemicals which reduce muscle tension, create a sense of ease in the body as well as increase the immune function.

Why should I get my kids checked by a Chiropractor?

We recommend that children be checked from birth. All births whether long or short, natural, assisted or cesarean can put a lot of pressure on your baby’s spinal cord and nervous system. Even the baby’s position in the womb can have an early effect on spinal alignment. When these tiny infants begin to grow, learn to crawl, and eventually walk, freshly developed motor patterns often lead to numerous slips/falls, bumps, and bruises. Chiropractic adjustments are crucial to helping keep kids in alignment through these fast changing years.
